How to use the Developer DAO Wiki (For Guilds and Projects).mp4
Hi everyone. I'm Nathan from Developer Dao. And today I wanted to walk you through the Developer Dao Wiki hosted in notion. This video specifically is meant for Guild leaders, project champions, or anyone involved in a Gilder project so that you can get ramped up really quickly. Think of this as a speed run so that you can understand the structure of really quickly and start using this as a tool for collaborating, building cool stuff, and then providing that visibility to the rest of the.
So let's get started here on our homepage. If you haven't seen it before we have four main sections, start here, resources, how to guides and guilds. One of the first things that you might want to do is actually find the individual project or Guild page, uh, that you're working with today and actually favorite them using the star icon on the top.
Right. When you do that, you'll see it pushed into this favorite section on the menu so that you can really quickly reference that whenever you need to. It's easy to get lost in notion. So definitely use that feature next. Let's talk about guilt and then we'll come back and talk about project. For each of the guilds, we've created pages with that.
And we've done that first pass at pushing information from that season zero proposal in, but really as part of this Guild, you should feel free to add, edit, remove any of the content in here, um, and use this as that Homebase for your Guild in your community. Let's take community guilt as an example. So if we go, if we go in here, we'll see the first section, which is goals, we'll see, get involved.
And actually, this is a great opportunity for you to customize to your, um, Guild's liking. If there's something specific that you need people to do when they join your Guild, you should definitely put that information in here. Next you'll see projects, which we'll come back and talk about. We'll see meeting notes and then we'll see contribute.
One important thing is that projects meeting notes and contributors are three databases that are done across, um, across the entire Wiki. What you see here is a filter of that database where, uh, it's filtered by your Guild. And when you want to create a new project or add a new meeting note, uh, and if you're going into this view and hitting new, you'll actually see that filter applied.
Uh, let me delete that really quickly. Okay. So the last section which I wanted to walk through today in more depth is this setup, your Wiki page that we've created for all of your individual wikis. So what we've done is created a task list for you, almost like a, um, you know, a guided tour of sorts to get you started and to get your Wiki up to shape and up to speed with.
So you'll see this task list here and, uh, let's actually walk through that together. So first review your current Wiki, check out all the information in there, make sure it's accurate. And if not, you know, go for it, edit it to your. Next, add yourself as a contributor. So in this contributors table, what you'll want to do is add, add a new row, um, fill out all of these fields accordingly, uh, add yourself to the guilt that you're part of.
And then also, uh, add the project. In here. So these are linked to the projects. So if you're searching for, you know, job board, as an example, you can quickly add that project to, um, to yourself and you'll see your name pop up in that project page. Okay. Let's go back. Favorite your guilt page and a project page or multiple.
We've already shown you how to do that. So let's move on. Add a season zero effort section. So this is actually taken, uh, or inspired by with heart and the development. We saw this and thought, Hey, this would be a really great opportunity, but obviously we wanted to leave that flexibility up for your own Guild.
Uh, but in the development Guild, they've done a really great job at, uh, creating priorities and talking about the efforts that they're trying to do as part of season zero. And so you should feel free to do that as well. Um, these are done as separate pages, so you can always go in and add more pages.
Update your Wiki icon and your Wiki cover image. So in each of these Guild pages, you'll see a Wiki, sorry, you'll see an icon up here. Um, you can use an emoji or you can actually upload a separate image that. That you already have on hand, and then you can also change your cover here. A easy thing to do is go into Unsplash and just choose something that's a bit more relevant for you.
The challenge, um, for you today is to find something that's more web three, uh, friendly. Let's go back, add a meeting note from a previous meeting that you held. So if you're in this guilt, Um, it's very easy to go in here and add a new meeting note. Again, this filter is applied for your guilt, but if you're in a project, um, and your, you know, your meeting is about a project, you should add that link into the project.
And that will actually show up in the project page. We decided not to have a template in here because everyone's structures, meeting notes a bit differently and runs their meeting differently. Um, so you know, whether you're using Google docs or notion, or even like a discourse forum posts or whatever it is, or even discord, um, you know, use that pasted in here. And, uh, this will be a really great tool to provide that visibility on all of the discussions held, uh, about your guilt or your.
Let's go back. Um, last two things, um, review projects and add any missing project and then which we'll talk about in depth and the last one delete this page when completed. So hopefully as you're filling this list out and you get familiar with everything that's happening and then you can go back in here and basically.
Go select all of this and hit the delete button. And then your Wiki is all set up. So let's talk about projects. So from the homepage, it's under the resources section, you'll see projects in here. And the really obvious thing is that not all of the projects are in here. Um, actually very few of them are, um, in order to add a new project.
Uh, what you'll want to do is click this new button and it kind of shows up if you hover over it, uh, two ways either you can click this drop down arrow and hit project template, or you can click new and then click this project template button, and that will get it structured properly, but I'm going to use, um, Dao Wiki as an example.
Because obviously this is the project that I'm working on right now. So you can expand this to open it as a, a full page. And one thing that you can do a hot tip is to, you know, by default it's not full width, but you can always change it to full width. So you see a lot more information about. So this template is set up with a few main sections.
