Being a member of a DAO typically bestows certain benefits, such as gaining access to a community. In most cases, being a member also confers rights to participate in DAO governance, such as voting in favor or against proposals brought forth by other members. As the number of DAOs continues to increase, becoming a member of multiple DAOs is not an uncommon situation.
Being a member of multiple DAOs can become overwhelming in terms of information overload and the ability to keep up with ongoing governance matters. In response, some DAOs provide their members with the ability to delegate their voting power to another person or group. The aim being that this will allow members to choose someone that they trust, and perhaps has more information, to keep track of governance matters and respond to proposals in a way that aligns with their own interests.
Developer DAO is being nominated by members of other DAOs to serve as a delegate and represent their interests. This means that these members of external DAOs are entrusting D_D to participate in the governance process and make decisions on their behalf. We recognize this privilege and the responsibility that it entails; therefore, as D_D continues positioning itself to serve as a delegate to external DAOs, we are making efforts to build the mechanisms required to maintain that responsibility. The initial and primary mechanism we have begun to use is detailed below under Developer DAO Delegate Committee.
Q: If I want to delegate my tokens to Developer DAO, which address should I use?
A: You can delegate your tokens to devdao.eth
Developer DAO at any given time may hold governance tokens for other DAOs. These governance tokens give D_D the ability, and in our view - the responsibility, to participate in the governance of the DAOs which we hold governance tokens. Since the responsibilities are similar in nature, we have chosen to use the same process described under Developer DAO Delegate Committee.
Members of the D_D Governance Guild submitted a draft proposal to formalize a process that was discussed and developed internally. The proposal was approved in a forum vote and then moved to a snapshot vote, which was also approved.
